Welcome to my virtual MLIS portfolio!

Life shrinks and expands according to one's courage.

Thank you for your interest in my professional services as a Librarian. I have been working in libraries since 2003 and gained my Masters in Information and Library Science in 2010. I have a generous array of professional and technical experience. From driving a 30 foot bookmobile around town to serving patrons in LA County, Santa Barbara County, and currently in Ventura County at the Ojai Public Library. I have a passion for books and technology, public service and helping people and  am deeply invested in intellectual freedom and the betterment of society through knowledge and access for all. Please, look through my professional philosophy and biography. Do keep in mind this is but a time capsule of thoughts; A process I was going through while while finishing the last steps of a rigorous and complex journey that begins the life of a professional librarian.

With that being said, enjoy my portfolio. In it you will find the SLIS competencies, required of all San Jose State University graduate students, in order to advance to a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science. On the left side of the home page, you'll find the links to the numbered competencies. When you click on them you will find my statements and the artifacts that support those competencies (projects and accomplishments that verify my understanding and mastery of that competency). The artifacts will be direct links to the assignments which are available for viewing via Google Docs.

Furthermore, you will find my philosophy and closing statements, as well as, 2010 resume
and biography, above the competencies.

I hope you enjoy exploring my e-portfolio, and in turn get a glimpse into my personal MLIS educational experience. Because after all, this experience helped shaped who I am today, as an employee and dedicated librarian in the public arena.

Thank you again,
Courtney Lerner
